Q: Why does Project Station manufacture in house?

Because the alternative doesn't work as well. When design, manufacture and installation sit with three different businesses, a problem found on site becomes a question of whose fault it is, and everyone waits while that gets settled. We own our workshops at Brookvale and Kensington and we employ the people in them, so lead times are ours to control, corrections happen on our own floor instead of in someone else's queue, and there's nobody to point at when something's not right. It costs more than farming it out. It's also why we can tell you the truth about a deadline.

Q: Can you work from our architect's drawings?

Yes, and a big share of what leaves our workshops is exactly that. Architects, interior designers, builders, shopfitters and head contractors send us drawings and specifications, and we price the work, produce shop drawings, flag anything that will cause trouble on site before it does, and either deliver to your installer or install ourselves. We'll design from scratch if you'd rather. Because our designers and makers work in the same building, a concept that needs to be made buildable within budget gets sorted in a day rather than a fortnight.

Q: Where does Project Station make its fit-outs?

Everything is made at our own two workshops: Brookvale on Sydney's Northern Beaches and Kensington in Melbourne. Solid timber, veneer, melamine, acrylic, glass, metal and upholstery, cut, machined and finished on our own floor with in-house CNC machining. Nothing is subcontracted to another factory and nothing is made offshore. Our own crews install across Australia and New Zealand, and Sydney and Melbourne projects are built in the city they're installed in, which takes freight off the program and off the quote.

Q: What does a commercial fit-out cost?

Five things drive the number: floor area, the sector and the compliance that comes with it, how much of the joinery is custom, material and finish selections, and site conditions like trading hours, access and other trades working around you. An office refresh sits at one end of the range, a flagship retail or hospitality fit-out at the other. We price off documented drawings rather than a concept sketch, so the quote reflects what's actually being built. Q: How long does a commercial fit-out take?

Most run eight to sixteen weeks from brief to handover: two to four weeks in design and documentation, four to eight in the workshop, one to three on site depending on access and whether the space is trading. Multi-site rollouts take longer overall but move faster per site once the prototype is signed off. Owning the workshop takes the subcontracted joinery queue out of the middle of the program, which is where fit-out timelines usually slip.

Q: What's the process, start to finish?

Six stages, one project manager across all of them. Briefing sets the space, objectives, program and budget. Concept design delivers layouts, renders and material selections for approval, and clients arriving with completed architectural drawings join here. Documentation and quote locks the detail, identifies approvals and issues the price. Manufacture happens at our Sydney or Melbourne workshop, with progress photographs through the build and a standing invitation to come and see it before it ships. Installation is by our own crews, staged around trading hours or a head contractor's program where needed. Handover completes and signs off the work.
